STATION HISTORY

In 1970, KTVM signed on the air in Butte.  The station made a commitment to serve southwest Montana with excellent television programming.  And in 1990, a low power signal, K42BZ-TV was added to deliver a stronger signal to viewers in Gallatin County.

In the old days, KTVM broadcast programming only a portion of each day, and that was an exact duplicate of what was being shown in Missoula.  Times have changed.  KTVM now broadcasts a unique signal with 24 hours of programming each and every day, much of it in high-definition and 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound.

Some things haven’t changed, though.  KTVM remains committed to the communities we serve, offering local news, weather, sports and entertainment that matters to southwest Montanans.  We deliver the best in entertainment from NBC.  We proudly support numerous community events each year.

In 1970, we knew we’d be here to stay.  The same holds true today.  KTVM-TV 6 & 42, committed to earning your trust, everyday.

PROGRAMMING

KTVM-TV 6 & 42 is part of a network of NBC affiliated stations covering western Montana.  Associated with KECI-TV 13 in Missoula and KCFW-TV 9 in Kalispell, KTVM-TV 6 & 42 has served viewers in southwest Montana for almost 40 years.

KTVM-6 & 42's programming is built on its proud affiliation with the NBC Television Network.  KTVM is home to such favorites as THE OFFICE, DEAL OR NO DEAL, the LAW & ORDER franchise and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.  NBC is home to the wildly popular NFL SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!  NBC also continues its role as AMERICA’S OLYMPIC NETWORK defining sports television for the 21st century with the Olympic games through 2012.  Coming this fall, NBC will again break the mold by moving JAY LENO to primetime, five nights a week!

In addition to this powerful NBC line-up, KTVM-6&42 offers many popular syndicated shows like the ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, LIVE WITH REGIS & KELLY, and coming in September from the producers of OPRAH, DR. OZ.

As the NEWS CHANNEL, KTVM-6&42 and its sister stations have made an extensive commitment to local and national news, airing over 40 hours of news programming every week.  Locally, KTVM-6&42 draws from experienced news professionals in all four of its bureaus, bringing viewers news coverage that is a cut above the rest.

KTVM-6&42 is committed to the communities it serves.  The GOLD STAR AWARD program is in its eighteenth year honoring excellence in education.  THE MORE YOU KNOW is a public service campaign that targets parents, teens and the tough issues they face today.  Station personnel are also involved in community projects such as the American Cancer Society's RELAY FOR LIFE.  They are proud of their years of outstanding service to the people of southwest Montana.

KTVM-6&42, committed to earning your trust!
