Bozeman -- Thursday's big snowstorm in southwest Montana left a winter wonderland scene in Bozeman on Friday morning.
Aside from cleaning up the snow itself, Bozeman city workers say the next big task is taking care of fallen tree branches.
Broken tree limbs and twigs littered city streets Friday. John VanDelinder, Superintendent of Streets said Friday, this is one of the worst cases of snow weighing down trees he has seen. He said the early October freeze kept leaves on trees, and the sudden storm this week, is the perfect recipe for broken limbs. "We're seeing healthy trees losing branches," VanDelinder said.
City workers are chopping up the tree branches, and leaving them on the road, until they can come back and pick them up, and mulch them. VanDelinder said anyone who wants to come get them for fire wood is welcome to do so.
The trees that aren't breaking are causing another problem...they are bending into power lines. VanDelinder said if you see a tree that is bending into a power line, do not go near it, and call NorthWestern Energy immediately. Otherwise you can call the City Shops Complex to come cut up the trees.
